The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) faced tough questioning from reporters over seven “heritage” players suspended by Fifa for alleged document falsification. During a tense press conference, deputy president S Sivasundaram was repeatedly asked for exact dates of the players’ arrival in Malaysia and when their MyKad were issued.

He admitted not having the details, saying applications were made in January and documents issued in May. Journalists also pressed him on whether the players were truly of Malaysian descent, which he could not confirm. Sivasundaram said an independent committee would investigate the matter and verify the documentation process.
