KEMAMAN, Oct 19 — A family outing at Pantai Penunjuk in Kijal ended in tragedy when a woman and her niece drowned after being swept away by strong waves yesterday afternoon.
District police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the 4.15pm incident occurred when seven family members were dragged into deeper waters while swimming. Five were rescued by relatives and beachgoers, but two were found unconscious.
Beach Tragedy
The 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the Kijal Health Clinic at 5.23pm, while her 39-year-old aunt died at Kemaman Hospital at 5.42pm.
