KOTA KINABALU, Oct 21 — With the Nov 29 Sabah state election approaching, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) is fighting to keep its traditional Chinese voter base amid rising localist sentiment. Political analyst James Chin noted in The Borneo Post that the Chinese electorate is increasingly fragmented, with LDP, SAPP, and Warisan challenging DAP in key urban seats.
DAP and Sabah
Chin said doubts over DAP’s autonomy from its federal leadership and perceptions of political double-dealing through PH’s ties with both GRS and UMNO Sabah could further weaken support. The “Sabah for Sabahan” movement may also sway voters away from DAP.
