SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — The first day of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s defamation trial against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ended after less than 30 minutes following a request for adjournment. Dr Mahathir’s lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, sought the adjournment after completing examination-in-chief, citing the former premier’s health condition.

On the stand, the 100-year-old said he was still weak and on medication. The case stems from Anwar’s 2023 speech alleging a former leader enriched himself during 22 years in power. Dr Mahathir denies the accusation, calling it baseless and damaging to his reputation.
