The Malaysian government has approved RM1.5 billion for a dual-purpose security wall along the Kelantan-Thailand border, spanning from Tumpat to Tanah Merah. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed the National Security Council’s endorsement, with the project now in the quotation and tender phase.

The wall aims to curb cross-border crime and act as a flood barrier, especially in Rantau Panjang where annual monsoon overflows from Sungai Golok threaten homes and businesses. Residents have voiced strong support for the initiative. Due to the river’s shallow nature, conventional surveillance methods like drones and CCTV have proven ineffective.
