U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to visit Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea ahead of a potential meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The trip, set for late October, marks Trump’s first visit to Asia since beginning his nonconsecutive second term.

He expressed optimism about the U.S.-China relations despite ongoing trade tensions, saying, “I want to be good to China.
I love my relationship with President Xi.” Trump is expected to attend a regional conference in Malaysia before heading to Japan on October 27, followed by South Korea for the Asia-Pacific economic summit. Talks with Xi are expected during the summit.
