KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun reiterated his stance that most statutory rape cases in the state were “consensual”, despite criticism over his earlier remarks. Speaking to reporters on Oct 21, he said such cases often occurred at the suspect’s home or budget hotels, involving minors who entered relationships soon after meeting.
Rape Cases
Yusoff reported 131 rape cases between January and September 2025, up from 114 in 2024. He urged parents to monitor their children’s activities closely. Rights groups, however, argue that “consent” is legally irrelevant when minors are involved under Malaysia’s statutory rape laws.
