Story: On January 17, Mohammed Sarfaraz, a taxi driver from Kingston Park Road, Newcastle, threw boiling cooking oil at PC Christopher Bain, causing severe burns. The attack occurred in Sarfaraz’s kitchen as officers entered with Tasers drawn. Sarfaraz barricaded himself in his garage, forcing police to use a battering ram for entry before Tasering and arresting him.
Taxi Driver Jailed
Despite denying the assault, Sarfaraz was found guilty at trial on October 20. Northumbria Police released footage of the incident. Sarfaraz was sentenced to nine years in prison for the violent attack that left the officer in agony.
