Singaporean religious teacher Noor Deros, now based in Malaysia, has ignited controversy after urging voters to back the Workers’ Party (WP) in the upcoming general election. In social media posts, Noor mixed religious calls with political endorsements, naming WP candidates such as Faisal Manap and issuing a list of demands to all contesting parties. His actions triggered a heated parliamentary exchange between Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam and WP leader Pritam Singh, reviving debate over the separation of religion and politics in Singapore.

Noor, best known for founding the 2014 anti-LGBT “WearWhite” movement, is not accredited to preach in Singapore after rejecting the Asatizah Recognition Scheme’s ethics code. Authorities and religious leaders have warned against politicising faith, calling it a dangerous precedent in Singapore’s multiracial context. Noor remains active online, continuing to challenge the state’s boundaries on religious discourse and political influence.
