The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing major automakers like GM, Toyota, and Volkswagen, has urged President Donald Trump’s administration not to impose tariffs on factory robots and machinery.

They warn such tariffs could raise production costs, delay manufacturing, and worsen vehicle shortages. Tesla echoed concerns, citing risks to investment and factory upgrades. Foreign governments and business groups—including the EU, China, and the US Chamber of Commerce—also oppose the move, noting that key equipment is only produced abroad.
The National Retail Federation added that tariffs would affect robotics used in logistics, driving up consumer prices amid already high vehicle costs.
