Malaysia’s Cabinet has decided to maintain existing guidelines allowing alcoholic beverages to be served at Chinese school halls when rented out for public events that do not involve students.

Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil announced the decision following a Cabinet meeting, emphasizing that no changes will be made to current practices. The Education Ministry will issue a follow-up statement to clarify implementation. 

The move aims to balance cultural sensitivities with public concerns, especially after recent debates sparked by remarks from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The decision affirms that school halls used for weddings or community events remain under current regulations.
