SHAH ALAM: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has acknowledged that no amendments were made to the Federal Constitution under Anwar Ibrahim’s administration that weaken the position of the Malays. Testifying in his RM150 million defamation suit against Anwar, Mahathir confirmed during cross-examination that Malay rights remain intact.
Weakening Malays
Anwar’s counsel, Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, pressed Mahathir to clarify his past claims that the government had sidelined Malay interests. Mahathir conceded there had been no constitutional changes but cited declining “political power” as a concern. He also agreed that Malay representation remains strong in the civil service, police, and armed forces.
