Two U.S. Navy aircraft went down in separate incidents in the South China Sea on Sunday, according to the U.S. Pacific Fleet. All crew members involved were safely rescued by search and rescue teams.
The first incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. local time when an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter conducting routine operations crashed into the sea. All three crew members were recovered unharmed.

About 30 minutes later, an F/A Super Hornet fighter jet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 22, known as the “Fighting Redcocks,” also went down while operating from the USS Nimitz. Both pilots successfully ejected and were rescued shortly after.
The Pacific Fleet said both aircraft were engaged in routine missions and that investigations into the causes are underway. The incidents coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Asia, as he departed Malaysia en route to Japan.
