CHERNOBYL — Several stray dogs living near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant have turned blue, baffling workers caring for them. The animals, descendants of pets abandoned after the 1986 disaster, were spotted wandering within the exclusion zone this month. According to Dogs of Chernobyl, part of the Clean Futures Fund, three dogs were found “completely blue” during sterilisation efforts.

The cause remains unknown, though experts suspect chemical exposure or environmental contamination. The organisation continues to monitor the dogs’ health as researchers investigate possible radiation or industrial factors behind the animals’ striking colour. Photo: YouTube/Wion
