KOTA KINABALU — Seat negotiations between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Pakatan Harapan, and Barisan Nasional (BN) have entered a tense stage as early candidate declarations disrupt ongoing talks. GRS has reportedly finalised its plan to contest 52 of Sabah’s 73 seats, leaving 20 for Harapan, but the proposal has yet to reach Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim. Party insiders said premature announcements by Harapan and its components, including Upko and Amanah, have caused “unnecessary pressure and confusion.”
Sabah Seat Talks
Several constituencies such as Tanjung Aru, Darau, and Sindumin now face overlapping claims from coalition partners, heightening the risk of internal clashes. Upko’s decision to contest under its own logo has further strained negotiations. Despite polling day set for Nov 29, unofficial campaigning has already begun, with leaders staking claims before the final seat formula is approved.
