The pair, both Singaporean Malays, claimed they were just friends and former colleagues, preparing to check out when officers arrived. JAINJ said the arrest followed two months of surveillance targeting daily-rental units used by unmarried couples.
Their Facebook post emphasized that no location is exempt from enforcement and urged followers to “remember death.” The incident sparked online debate, with netizens questioning cross-border enforcement and the role of religious policing.
