Drug-trafficking “narco subs” are increasingly being used to transport meth and cocaine from South America to Australia through the Pacific, experts warn.
Three abandoned semi-submersible vessels were recently found in the Solomon Islands, believed to have carried tonnes of narcotics bound for Australian shores.

Strategic analyst Michael Shoebridge said the vessels are hard to detect and pose a serious security challenge, urging greater regional cooperation to intercept them.
He added that Australia’s navy and border forces are not adequately equipped to track these low-profile craft, making the nation vulnerable to global drug syndicates.
