MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon has voiced strong support for the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Malaysia, condemning Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s threat to contact an editor over a reporter’s question.
“The media plays a vital role in holding leaders accountable. Any attempt to intimidate or silence journalists is a direct attack on democracy,” said Dr Mah.

He added that Nga’s conduct contradicts the government’s pledge to uphold transparency and freedom of expression.
“A free and independent press is not the enemy of government but the guardian of truth,” he said, urging all leaders to respect journalistic independence and integrity.
“I don’t want you coming here and bringing up things that could ruin the entire event. I will contact your editor,” Minister Nga Kor Ming told a media man at an event recently.
