A 33-year-old Malaysian technician was sentenced to 10 years in prison for accidentally killing his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter in 2022. The tragedy occurred when Ahmad Ashraf, weighing 138kg, stepped on the child’s chest in the dark while trying to give her milk at his home in Kota Tinggi.

Realising his mistake, he rushed her to the hospital, but she died from her injuries. Ashraf later surrendered to police. The court ruled it as manslaughter without intent to kill, citing his remorse, cooperation, and plea for forgiveness. The judge noted his visible weight loss and deep regret.
