A 20-year-old Singaporean woman, Chew Pei Xuan, attempted to seize an auxiliary police officer’s loaded revolver at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital after being admitted for self-harm. She had cut her wrists while drunk and later tried to escape the ward, driven by voices urging her to end her life.

When restrained, she broke free and grabbed the gun, which held five bullets, before being subdued by hospital security. Chew pleaded guilty to using criminal force in committing theft. Medical reports confirmed she suffered from borderline personality disorder and situational depression at the time.
