Solid Gold Toilet ‘America’ Set for Sotheby’s Auction at $10 Million

A fully functional solid gold toilet by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, titled “America,” will be auctioned at Sotheby’s New York on November 18. Weighing 101.2 kilograms, the 18-karat gold sculpture is expected to fetch around $10 million, making it the world’s most valuable toilet.

Created in 2016 as a satire on wealth, the piece mirrors another version stolen from Blenheim Palace in 2019. Sotheby’s called it a commentary on the link between art and material value. The work, previously displayed at the Guggenheim Museum, has been owned by a private collector since 2017. Photo: Wiki
