After his exit, power struggles erupted as multiple leaders vied to become prime minister, splintering Umno into rival factions. This, he said, forced alliances of convenience among Malay parties like Bersatu, PAS, PKR, and Amanah. Mahathir added that his new Malay secretariat aims to coordinate, not replace, parties — a last push to revive Malay unity.
