KUALA LUMPUR: “Now they want me to step down again—how many times are they going to ask me to resign… enough already,” Anwar Ibrahim said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Step down
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed calls for his resignation following Malaysia’s signing of the Reciprocal Trade Agreement (ART) with the United States. Speaking in Parliament, Anwar said accusations of betrayal or surrender were baseless, emphasizing that even major economies like China have similar agreements.
His comments came after former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad urged him to step down, alleging the pact undermined national sovereignty and Malay rights. Mahathir claimed the deal compels Malaysia to purchase USD150 billion in U.S. goods, including 30 Boeing aircraft and USD3 billion in gas annually.
