Two Malaysian men were fined RM5,000 each by the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court for impersonating traffic police officers and attempting to extort RM300 from a motorcyclist.

Fake Cops Fined

The incident occurred outside a restaurant in Taman Ipoh Timur Baru at 12:38 AM on 1 November, where the men, aged 24 and 40, deceived two teenagers by threatening to take them to a police station.

If they fail to pay the fine, both face 12 months in jail. Defence lawyer K. Nathan said the men—an electrician and a restaurant assistant—have repented and pleaded for leniency, citing low income and a promise not to reoffend.
