Malaysia’s trade with the United States surged 15.4 per cent to RM270.88 billion between January and September 2025, despite new tariffs imposed by Washington. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said over 7,700 Malaysian firms export to the US, supporting 1.1 million jobs, with the electrical and electronics sector leading.

He warned that higher tariffs could reduce competitiveness, trigger cancelled orders, and pressure local producers. Bank Negara has revised GDP growth to 4.0–4.8 per cent. Through diplomacy, Malaysia secured a tariff reduction to 19 per cent, safeguarding RM198.65 billion in exports and protecting SMEs reliant on US markets.
