New: UK Drivers Face 3p-Per-Mile Tax on Electric Cars in Labour’s Autumn Budget

Millions of UK drivers are set to be affected by a new 3p-per-mile tax on electric vehicles, to be announced in the Labour government’s Autumn Budget on November 26. The measure, aimed at replacing lost fuel duty revenue, will apply alongside existing road taxes once implemented. Tanya Sinclair, CEO of Electric Vehicles UK, warned the move could unsettle motorists and slow EV adoption.

She urged the government to consult widely and plan carefully. Critics on social media argued the new system would harm the electric car market and risk damaging Britain’s motor industry. Up to six million drivers could be impacted by the change when it takes effect.
