Singapore PM Warns: “Miss One Cycle, Lose Five Years”

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has urged the People’s Action Party (PAP) to accelerate leadership renewal, saying he hopes the outlines of the party’s fifth-generation (5G) leaders will emerge by the next general election, due by 2030. 

Singapore PM Shares Warning

Speaking at PAP’s biennial convention, Wong stressed that missing one cycle would mean losing five years of preparation, a costly delay in building trust with Singaporeans. 

He highlighted younger ministers already leading policy reviews and international representation, bringing fresh energy to governance. Wong recalled advice from Lee Hsien Loong in 2006 about the urgency of renewal, noting that he now fully understands its importance.
