Thai police have arrested a 26-year-old Malaysian man in Bangkok for impersonating a government officer and scamming an elderly victim out of THB3.3 million (~RM426,000). Identified only as Tan, the suspect was detained at a hotel in Don Mueang following a court-issued warrant.
Thai Police Arrest M’sian in Phone Scam
Investigators seized clothing, a backpack, two phones, multiple SIM cards, and foreign debit cards linked to the crime. The victim, a 70-year-old man, was tricked into believing his bank account was tied to money laundering. After receiving forged documents and a video call, he handed over cash at a gas station, only to be duped. Police later tracked and arrested the suspect.
