Satellite imagery reveals that BYD has more than doubled the size of its Zhengzhou megafactory, now spanning 22.5 square kilometers — far larger than Tesla’s Austin gigafactory.
BYD’S Rapid Expansion
Since opening in 2023, the site has become one of BYD’s most critical production hubs, churning out over half a million vehicles last year. Recent approvals have paved the way for new battery and mold production lines, while the factory now boasts a unique EV testing circuit with a sand incline, wade pool, and drifting circle.
BYD plans to expand annual capacity to 1.8 million vehicles, positioning itself to overtake Tesla as the world’s largest EV maker.
