The US Supreme Court has extended a temporary pause on a lower court order requiring President Donald Trump’s administration to fully fund food aid for 42 million low-income Americans during the ongoing government shutdown.
Supreme Court Pausing Food Benefits
The decision allows the administration to continue withholding US$4 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), though the pause expires tomorrow. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, saying she would have denied the request.
Meanwhile, the Senate approved compromise legislation to end the longest shutdown in US history, which has disrupted food benefits, left federal workers unpaid, and forced families to rely on strained food pantries.
