Over 600 Juvenile Sexual Crimes Reported in Schools

More than 600 of the 3,093 sexual crime cases involving minors since 2023 were reported to have occurred within school areas, according to Deputy Minister M. Kulasegaran. A total of 1,760 cases were recorded in 2023, followed by 1,041 in 2024, and 892 between January and October 2025. Over the same period, 3,601 arrests were reported.

Juvenile Sexual Crimes

The Education Ministry’s Institutional Safety Reform Committee was established to strengthen school safety, with audits carried out under the Safe School Programme. Plans for a National Child Data Centre were confirmed, though implementation remains subject to legal limits under the Child Act 2001.
