A rare moment of humour coloured a historic White House visit when US President Donald Trump met Syria’s President Ahmed Al Sharaa. During their introductory chat, Trump asked Sharaa how many wives he had, laughing as he posed the question.

Sharaa replied he had one, then returned the query. Trump answered the same, prompting brief laughter between the leaders. Trump later gifted Sharaa two bottles of his branded fragrance and sprayed them on Sharaa and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani. The Syrian delegation presented replicas of ancient artefacts, marking the first Syrian presidential visit to Washington since 1946.
