JOHOR BAHRU — Twenty-three Malaysians were fined for trying to leave Malaysia without presenting their passports at the motorcycle lane of the Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building on Oct. 16.

According to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), the 26 motorists violated Section 2(2) of the Passport Act, which mandates travellers to show their passports to immigration officers. Ten were fined RM1,000 each on Nov. 6, and 13 were fined RM1,500 each on Nov. 13. The remaining three pillion riders received warnings. AKPS cautioned that non-compliance could lead to legal action and passport withholding.
