A video on YouTube reveals that UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick has said his party left Pakatan Harapan (PH) after feeling sidelined by Nurul Izzah Anwar in the selection of PH’s Sabah election committee. Although Ewon is the PH Sabah chairman, he said he was excluded from key decision-making for this month’s state polls, with Nurul Izzah allegedly taking charge of appointments without consulting the local leadership.

Observers claimed the process showed PH central leadership overriding Sabah’s autonomy, fuelling tensions between local and national leaders. APCO leaders argued that strategic decisions should involve Sabah-based parties, especially ahead of a crucial election. The move to exit PH was described as a clear signal that the party sought proper recognition and authority in shaping Sabah’s political direction.
