NOV 17 – A solemn funeral service was held in Sibu for Tan Sri Datuk Sir Tiong Hiew King, 91, where family members, dignitaries and community leaders gathered to honour the influential media magnate. Held at New Masland Church, the ceremony drew a large crowd reflecting Tiong’s immense impact on Malaysia’s media landscape.

As founder of a major media group, he reshaped Chinese-language journalism through titles such as Sin Chew Daily, Guang Ming Daily, Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press. Tributes highlighted his global recognition, including a K.B.E. conferred in 2009. The cortege later passed landmarks tied to his life before burial at Tiong Memorial Park.
