MIC faces rising internal pressure to quit Barisan Nasional after multiple state-level meetings echoed grassroots frustration.
Former MIC vice-president Kohilan Pillay says the party has little choice but to leave Barisan Nasional as grassroots demands intensify. He urged MIC leaders to clarify the party’s direction instead of delaying decisions, noting that delegates in Kedah, the Federal Territories, and Penang have openly called for an exit. At MIC’s 79th General Assembly, three motions were submitted to end its BN membership.
Quit BN
Kohilan said leaving BN would allow MIC to pursue better opportunities, including joining Perikatan Nasional, which he believes offers a higher chance of securing seats. However, he noted MIC must commit fully to PN’s ideology if it joins.
