Election watchdog Bersih has urged the government to clearly separate official duties from party activities during election campaigns. While Prime Minister Anwar insists no government assets were used in the Sabah polls, Bersih highlighted programs like Jualan Ehsan Rakyat and post-dissolution funding announcements — including RM62.76 million for Tawau projects — as creating unfair advantages.

The group stressed that security needs cannot justify using state machinery for campaigning, suggesting parties bear their own travel costs. Bersih called for amendments to the Election Offences Act to enforce stricter guidelines, warning that material benefits to voters undermine fair competition and public trust.
