PUTRAJAYA: Former military pathologist Colonel Dr R Kunaseegaran, sentenced to death for the 2015 murder of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais, has filed a rare review application at the Federal Court to quash his conviction.

Death Sentence

Through lawyers Messrs Cheong & Maman, Kunaseegaran invoked Rule 137 of the Federal Court Rules 1995, alleging a “serious miscarriage of justice”. In his affidavit from Sungai Buloh Prison, he claimed the panel led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat in July overlooked defence submissions, breaching natural justice and creating sentencing disparity with co-accused.

On 1 July 2025, the apex court upheld Kunaseegaran’s death penalty while jailing two others and acquitting three.
