The Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) has urged Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to clarify his role in the controversial citizenship grant to seven national football players. A FIFA inquiry revealed the players used forged birth certificates, with several admitting they did not speak Malay and signed documents without comprehension.

Although Saifuddin previously defended the vetting process and claimed waiver of requirements was under his ministerial discretion, C4 argues the affair highlights systemic failures and favouritism. The group called for Saifuddin’s immediate apology before Parliament and demanded concrete explanations over the citizenship lapses.
