MIC has pushed back against claims that it has lost Indian support, saying Umno’s actions when leading the government caused the community’s shift away from Barisan Nasional. MIC strategy director C Sivaraj said critics offered a distorted view, arguing that decisions on Kampung Medan, temple demolitions, unilateral conversions and “body-snatching” cases eroded trust in the government, not the party.

He said MIC had warned Umno for years but was ignored. Vice-president T Murugiah also dismissed the criticism, saying MIC remains established and that past BN leadership decisions weakened all component parties. Both leaders said MIC should hold real authority in future alliances.
