Malaysia’s National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) reports a growing wave of mental health problems among users of synthetic drugs, particularly amphetamine-type stimulants. Director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said many young users now consume liquid synthetic substances through vape devices, increasing accessibility and risk.
Synthetic Drug Surge
Despite a 7.9% drop in total recorded drug users from January to September, synthetic drug use remains dominant, accounting for over 83% of cases. Nada warns that vape cartridges and “weed pens” often contain synthetic cannabinoids, while products sold as “magic mushrooms” may be chemical imitations. ATS abuse continues to drive treatment challenges nationwide.
