The final criminal trial involving former prime minister Najib Razak over the alleged misappropriation of RM2.2 billion from 1MDB has concluded, with the High Court scheduling Dec 26 to deliver its verdict. Najib faces four charges of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering.
1MDB Trial Verdict
His defence argued the funds were donations from Saudi royalty and that 1MDB’s management, alongside fugitive financier Jho Low, acted without his knowledge. The defence also cited donation letters bearing AmBank’s compliance stamp. Prosecutors countered that the letters had already been discredited and could not be reevaluated. The court’s ruling is now pending.
