Malaysia to Ban Social Media for Underaged Individuals
The government is studying enforcement models similar to Australia’s, including requiring platforms to adopt eKYC verification using MyKad, passports, or MyDigital ID.
Fahmi stressed that effective implementation will require cooperation from regulators, platforms, and parents. He added that the goal is to make Malaysia’s internet not only fast and affordable but also safe for families. Platforms are expected to comply with the new rules by 2026.
