Selangor’s PKNS Redevelopment Plan Stalls Over Consent and Costs

Selangor’s plan to redevelop three aging PKNS housing areas has stalled despite being identified since 2015. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) initiative faced major hurdles, including residents failing to reach the required 80% consent, high compensation demands, and difficulties in finding temporary relocation sites. 

Selangor PKNS Redevelopment Plan Stalling

The affected locations are PKNS apartments in AU3 Ulu Kelang, Seksyen 17 Petaling Jaya, and Seksyen 16 Shah Alam. Amirudin noted developers would need RM100–150 million just to build temporary housing blocks, a cost many cannot bear. Without renewal, he warned, these old homes risk becoming unsafe and abandoned.
