KUALA Lumpur, Nov 24 — The High Court has fixed January 5 to decide whether former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak may serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest. Justice Alice Loke Yee Ching set the date after hearing submissions from both Najib’s legal team and the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Najib argues that the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong issued an additional order during the January 29, 2024 Pardons Board meeting, permitting him to serve his sentence at home. The government disputes the existence and validity of such an order.
An affidavit by BHEUU deputy director-general Datuk Punitha Silivarajoo stated that meeting minutes recorded only the reduction of Najib’s sentence and fine, with no discussion of house arrest.
