PETALING JAYA — Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has resigned as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary following a controversy over a contractor support letter. He said he became aware of attempts to use the issue to damage his reputation and the government’s image, prompting his decision to step down.

Shamsul submitted his resignation this morning and thanked Anwar for his trust. The matter had sparked calls for tougher action, including from former economy minister Rafizi Ramli. Anwar, however, previously said the letter did not influence any project approval though he disagreed with Shamsul’s actions.
