Hassan Abdul Karim issued a stark critique of Malaysia’s political direction, using a poem to question anti-corruption promises, shifting leadership values, and what he views as a growing loss of legitimacy.
He appeared to openly criticise unfulfilled anti-corruption promises. He sees a shift in leadership behaviour since PKR came to power.
Anti-Corruption Promises

“Today, the curtain of falsehood has been torn down. The promise of fighting corruption is actually an illusion. In the past, we ascended to Perdana Putra with high moral authority but now we are sinking in a tide of materialism.
“We no longer have anything that qualifies us to remain at the gates of power. Each day, we do not move forward. In fact, we retreat defensively,” Hassan wrote, criticising unfulfilled anti-corruption promises.
