Since the creation of the Asset Recovery Trust Account (AA MKA) in December 2018, Malaysia has recovered RM31.2 billion linked to 1MDB and SRC International as of September 30, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

The funds are strictly reserved for debt repayment and existing commitments, not operating or development spending. Remaining AA MKA funds stand at RM5.29 billion, while 1MDB’s outstanding debt totals RM24.46 billion, including sukuk issuance and shareholder advances.
The MOF stressed its commitment to recovering misappropriated assets to maximize returns and reduce liabilities from the scandal, ensuring transparency and safeguarding public finances.
