KUALA LUMPUR: The MACC faced backlash after summoning lawyer Mahajoth Singh over the Albert Tei bribery investigation. Lawyers For Liberty called it “blatant intimidation” and a breach of solicitor-client privilege, demanding Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki withdraw the notice.

The probe involves businessman Tei and Hang Tuah Jaya MP Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, both remanded six days for alleged bribery linked to Sabah funds. The summons has reignited calls for stronger protection of legal privilege in corruption cases.
