Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad alleged that Malaysia’s independence had been compromised by the government’s recent agreement with the United States. He said key commitments to Washington had been concealed from the public and argued that the full text of the deal showed concessions that placed Malaysia under US control.

He claimed this amounted to a loss of sovereignty. Mahathir directly blamed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, calling the move treacherous and stating that Anwar should be charged for betraying the country. His statement, dated 28 November 2025, marked one of his strongest attacks on the administration, centred entirely on his view that the agreement had endangered Malaysia’s autonomy.
